One of the hosts for DFAT 2011 this year was Trellis n Vines, a small but charming restaurant tucked in what used to be a vacant lot beside the Davao Convention Center. I’ve heard about Trellis ‘n Vines last December but never got around to trying the restaurant. Time is always too short when I’m in Davao.
When I was in high school, this area hardly got any traffic and was just one of those roads you pass through on your way to school or the funeral home. Nowadays, F. Torres Street is lined with restaurants and coffee shops, offering a milieu of choices for any diner, beer drinker, and what have you
For starters, we were served with Sinuglaw and Pan Fried Bangus with tomato sauce. Sinuglaw is a common dish in Davao City composed of grilled pork and kinilaw or tuna ceviche. The name Sinuglaw is a combination of sugba, to grill and kinilaw which means to cook in vinegar. Trellis n’ Vines sinuglaw was nicely plated and the pork was crisp and crunchy. I liked it and so did most of the DFAT participants.
