We use google apps most of the time at work — from our mail, docs, calendars, and all the works. I use Gmail for my personal mail too. For a while I was satisfied with just checking the calendar on my laptop (I’m in front of the pc most of the time anyway) and my iPod touch when I’m mobile or travelling.
But as much as I love playing with the iPod touch, my interest in it waned off after a few weeks, only remembering to charge or use it when I’m travelling. So I went back to relying on my phone and laptop most of the time. The laptop for daily tasks and the phone to check emails when I’m out and when I can’t bring the laptop with me. But something was missing. I miss hearing those calendar alerts that I was getting in the iPod touch. Syncing your google calendar with apple devices is pretty easy, but is it possible with the Nokia e72?
Apparently it is but the caveat is that you can only sync one calendar. As much as I love the Nokia E72 this glaring lack of support for google apps pissed me off, big time. I ended up choosing just one calendar out of the 3 that I have.
Below are the steps that I did to sync my work calendar to my phone:
1.) Start email setup wizard –> Menu – Control Panel – Sett. Wizard – Email Setup
2.) Choose Mail for Exchange
3) You will be prompted to enter your email address, add x after it.
E.g. [email protected]X / [email protected]X
4) Under username put email address – [email protected] (note:don’t put the x at the end this time) , your password, and the mail exchange server (m.google.com). Leave the domain heading blank. Click Next.
5.) Select Calendar (and Contacts if you want). Tasks is not supported yet. Click next.
6.) Choose how you want or how often you sync your data.
7.)After setting up the account go back to your email settings —> Menu – Email – Settings – Mail for exchange and remove the x in your email address.
And that’s it. Kinda tedious but at least my data’s all synced up and in the cloud. The calendar alerts and reminders are working just as they should too. Now if only I could find a way to sync my other calendars to this phone… :p
