When I tell people that I live in Makati they always think that it’s glamorous… sosyal in tagalog. It holds true I guess if you live in the posh condominiums along Ayala Avenue, Legazpi, and Salcedo. I don’t, I can’t afford it anyway. Look beyond Ayala and you’ll find streets and villages that cater to people of ordinary means. Washington St. in Makati is a perfect example.
Most of the buildings on Washington Street offer rooms or apartments for rent with prices ranging from P2000 per room up to P12000 a unit depending on how many rooms or how big the place is. Since it’s only 10 minutes away from Ayala Ave, employees from numerous offices in the city flock here and in the nearby streets to live. It’s an okay place to live I guess, if you don’t mind the city noise of people and vehicles coming in and out of the street.
I prefer a quieter environment, but that’s just me. My friend V. lives in Washington St. and he thrives on the energy exuded by the street. Unlike where I live, Washington Street is bustling with activity day and night. It’s a feast for the eyes. There’s so much going on, so many people passing through that I had a hard time choosing which photos I wanted to post. Being a newbie in street photography, I find Washington St. a good place to start learning, people here don’t mind having their photos taken as much, probably because they’re in a hurry always.
I’m so looking forward to my next photo walk. Click on the thumbnails below to view whole set.
