2008 should be a happy year for the University of the Philippines. The whole system together with the alumni is expecting a lot of programs, contests, and parties–all toasting to UP’s 100th year.
Am I excited? No, not really. Maybe if I was in UP Diliman or Los Banos where the centennial festivities can really be felt. UP Mindanao’s quiet, no particular activity related to the centennial is really interesting.
I don’t know if the tree planting activities with 55th Engineering Brigade is to be considered as festive. I certainly don’t relish the fact that we are living right next to possible human rights violators. Oh, I almost forgot. The painting dubbed as ‘the facelift’ of the administration building is a centennial offering, and of course, how could I forget the P5M oblation park?
UP centennial goodies are also available, and I only found out about it because I was reading somebody else’s blog. They have customized license plates, stickers, shirts, CDs, and planners. I want the planner. Damn it. I can’t get it now because I read the blog post a few days late. Diliman’s student council apparently have been accepting orders since last November.
Now this is supposed to be open to all UP units. What the hell happened to UP Mindanao? uh…USC people, are you by any chance reading this?
I guess I’ll have to settle with a shirt. And this time I’m relying on a Diliman based friend to get me one.
