A big part of my university life is the sorority I’m in and of course our male counterpart, the fraternity. I joined Pi Sigma – Pi Sigma Delta way back in my early years in up, and despite all the bad flak about fraternities, I’d like to believe that we’re different. One can actually check our records and find that it’s clean, we don’t involve ourselves in rumbles and has always prided in the fraternity’s ability to produce good student leaders.
But like all fraternities and sororities we have certain rules to follow. One rule I didn’t expect I would be tested on is the ‘assuming everything else is equal, give the position/favor to the brod or sis’. I didn’t assume mainly because my friends and brods or sisses rarely want something similar. Not until himati came that is.
Last year when I was still the assoc ed I had no such problem. I had no brods/sis in the publication, only me and melody, who wasn’t really around that much. This year though is quite different, aside from being the eic, lyan and emyat, both paragons are part of the group, and I’m closer to the staff now.
The other day during our general assembly I made the mistake of offering a free bamboo concert pass. At least 4 of the staff dived for the ticket. I panicked and hid the ticket in my bag instead. One of the four was lyan, a frat brother and also my buddy. Dan, our assoc Ed backed out of the contest after I bribed him with a food trip, leaving lee, Lourdes, and lyan. The 3 Ls. Haha.
Lyan insisted I give the ticket to him, since he called out first, with a ‘sis baya ta, manluod ko kung di nimo ihatag sa ako’. Lourdes and lee disagreed of course, and readily accused me of playing favorites if I chose lyan over them. Lee was already chanting ‘brod man gud…brod man gud…’ and to prove that he really wanted the ticket he was on the floor, throwing a mock tantrum.
I thought of having a raffle or something. But in the end I chose lyan. Not because I like him better over lee or Lourdes, I like them all; it just happened that lyan was a frat brother. And one rule we have is that if all else is equal, give the position to the brod or sis. I was just following the rules. Hehe. Lee came to the concert still, with a free ticket from another friend.
It was raining when we got to the concert area so Lyan and I ended up at Banok to have dinner. I was still full from the bloggers food trip at belly’s grill so I settled for a mango shake. Lyan, however was a different story. He had barbecue, lechon kawali, and 4 cups of rice! wowowee. And he said he was on a diet. Haha.
The service at banok’s as always was bad. the waiter forgot to list my mango shake, the lechon kawali was served late and we had to remind them over and over about our orders. they better do something about this, I’ve tried 3 of their branches and they all had lousy services. The food’s not that good either.
Anyways, watching bamboo perform was as always a blast. I liked him better in Boracay though where the atmosphere was more relaxed and fun. The beach really lends a different feel to a concert. I remember beer was everywhere, as well as cigarettes, and get this: I was tipsy enough to dance to some of the songs they played. Hahaha. SM carpark of course had a no beer-yosi policy.
Still, bamboo was great, a whole lot better than staying at home and trying my hand at online casino games.
